[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *seykʷ- (“to filter”) and cognate with Old English sēon (“to filter”), Russian сцать (scatʹ, “to piss”) and Sanskrit सिञ्चति (siñcáti, “to pour”). Beekes suggests *seyk- as the original root.
