[edit]From ἐμπειρῐκός (empeirĭkós): as a noun, a substantivisation of its feminine forms in elliptical use for ἡ ἐμπειρικὴ αἵρεσις (hē empeirikḕ haíresis, “the system of philosophic principles based on experience”); as an adjective, regularly declined forms.
