Adjective

[edit]

Ἄσῐος (Ásĭos) (attested only in the masculine singular)

  1. (Epic) found only as an epithet of λειμών (leimṓn, meadow); conveniently translated ‘Asian’, but it is more likely that Asia gets its name from this meadow rather than the other way around. Eustathius of Thessalonica glosses the term as ἰλυώδης (iluṓdēs, muddy), in which case it should be written in lower case, i.e. ἄσιος (ásios).
