ἄμαλλα

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Ancient Greek

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Considered to be a derivation from the verb ἀμάομαι (amáomai, to gather). However, if this verb is used primarily for drawing liquids, it can hardly be connected with this noun. One might also think of ἀμάω (amáō, to reap), however, given the suffix -λλ-, Beekes calls the word Pre-Greek.
