Etymology
[edit]From earlier ἄϝημι (áwēmi), from Proto-Hellenic *awēmi, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wḗh₁ti, from the root *h₂weh₁- (“to blow; wind”). Cognates include Old English and English wind, Latin ventus, vannus, Sanskrit वाति (vāti, “to blow”).
