ἀφία
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]The connection with ἀφιέναι (aphiénai, “flowers”) is untenable. Krahe connects the word with Latin apium (“parsley”) but these are quite different plants. Furnée proposes a connection with ἄφρισσα (áphrissa, “dragonwort”) suggesting a Pre-Greek origin.
