ἀθραγένη
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Frisk compares ἄθρας (áthras, “chariot”), but it is semantically untenable. Furnée compares ἀνδράχνη (andrákhnē, “purslane”) and concludes to a Pre-Greek origin, which is sustained also by Beekes due to the presence of prenasalization.
