In addition to the phonetic transcription of various languages, such as Chechen, this symbol has been used in dictionary orthographies of the unwritten Caucasian languages Bezhta and Godoberi, with the nasal vowels transcribed аᵸ, а̄ᵸ, аьᵸ, а̄ьᵸ, еᵸ, иᵸ, оᵸ, оьᵸ, уᵸ, уьᵸ.
