[edit]From Proto-Southwestern Tai *kletᴰ, from Proto-Tai *klecꟲ, from Old Chinese 介 (OC *kreːds, “shell; to wear armour”).[1] Cognate with Thai เกล็ด (glèt), Northern Thai ᨠᩖᩮᩢᨯ, Lao ເກັດ (ket), Lü ᦵᦂᧆ (k̇ed), Shan ၵဵတ်း (káet).
