Etymology

Thought to originally be from Chinese (upright, proper, honourable) or Mongolian тэнгис (tengis, ocean), cf. Omeljan Pritsak's reconstruction of Attila as "oceanic ruler".[1] Initially rendered as Middle Chinese 成吉思 (MC dzyeng kjit si|siH).
