[edit]Thought to originally be from Chinese 正 (“upright, proper, honourable”) or Mongolian тэнгис (tengis, “ocean”), cf. Omeljan Pritsak's reconstruction of Attila as "oceanic ruler".[1] Initially rendered as Middle Chinese 成吉思 (MC dzyeng kjit si|siH).
