ᚹᚨᚷᛖ

Proto-Norse
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Dative of a name *ᚹᚨᚷᚨᛉ (*wagaʀ /Wāgaʀ/). The a-stem dative singular ending -ᛖ (-e) comes from Proto-Germanic *-ai, with a regular sound shift of *-ai > -ē (Old Norse -i). The name itself may be from Proto-Germanic *wēgaz (“wave, sea”), in which case the first ᚨ (a) represents long ā (compare Old Norse vágr).
