ᚠᚱᚨᚹᚨᚱᚨᛞᚨᛉ
Appearance
Proto-Norse
[edit]Etymology
[edit]First element either from Proto-Germanic *frawaz (“quick”) or *frawjaz, *frawjô, (“lord, Freyr”). Second element *ᚱᚨᛞᚨᛉ (rādaz) is from Proto-Germanic *rēdaz (“advice, counsel”), same as in ᚺᚨᚷᛁᚱᚨᛞᚨᛉ (hagiradaʀ), compare second element in Old High German Kuonirāt. Note the shift of Proto-Germanic *ē to ā, also seen in the Old Norse descendant ráð.
