Unknown. Cognate to Amharic ጻፈ (ṣafä), Tigrinya ጸሓፈ (ṣäḥafä), Sabaean 𐩮𐩢𐩰 (ṣḥf), Qatabanian 𐩮𐩢𐩰 (ṣḥf). Not used in Minaean, but possibly related to Arabic صَخَفَ (ṣaḵafa, “to dig the ground”).
