- ረስዩ ፡ ሊተ ፡ ዛተ ፡ ፍትሐ ፡ በቅድሜክሙ ፡ ወዘትቤሉ ፡ ወመጠነ ፡ አብዛኅክሙ ፡ ጥቀ ፡ ሕጼሃ ፡ እሁበክሙ ፡ ወሀቡኒያ ፡ ለዛቲ ፡ ወለት ፡ ትኩነኒ ፡ ብእሲተ ።
- räsyu litä zatä fətḥä bäḳdəmekmu wäzätbelu wämäṭänä ʾäbzaḫkəmu ṭəḳä ḥəṣeha ʾəhubäkmu wähäbuniya läzati wälät təkunäni bəʾsitä .
- Ask me ever so much dowry and gift, and I will give according to what you say to me; but give me the young woman as a wife.”
- Exodus 22:16
- ወለእመ ፡ ካልእ ፡ ምታ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢየሀብዎ ፡ የሐፂ ፡ ሕፄሃ ፡ ይሁብ ፡ ለአቡሃ ፡ ሕፄ ፡ የሐፅይዎ ፡ ለድንግል ።
- wäläʾmä kalʾ məta kämä ʾiyähäbwo yäḥäṣ́i ḥəṣ́eha yəhub läʾäbuha ḥəṣ́e yäḥäṣ́yəwo lädnəgl .
- If a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall surely pay the bride-price for her to be his wife.

Usage notes
[edit]This term refers either to: payment by a husband to his bride; payment by a father to his daughter who is being married, or a payment by a man to buy a bride.
