[edit]Uncertain. Only attested in Ethiopic Semitic (e.g. Amharic ሊሎ (lilo), Tigrinya [script needed] (lila), and Tigre [script needed] (līlo)), and some Cushitic languages. Perhaps derived from the same root as ሌሊት (lelit, “night”).
