Georgian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

The origin is uncertain. Perhaps from the name of the village ჯუღაანი (ǯuɣaani, Jughaani) +‎ -შვილი (-švili). Alternatively, originally an Ossetian surname, going back to Ossetian дзуг (ʒug, flock).
