Etymology

From ნთხოზ- (ntxoz-) +‎ -უმ (-um) +‎ -ს (-s). Inherited from Proto-Georgian-Zan *txaz- : *txz- (“to plait, weave; to compose”).

1. to braid, to knit, to weave (hair, rope, thread etc.)

   ლაზუტი მთხოზი დო ნაჲლაზ ქოგებოკიდი

   lazuťi mtxozi do naylaz kogeboǩidi

   I braided corn and hang it on the ნაჲლა (nayla)

2. to make rope (from hemp), to make yarn (from wool)
