Likely connected to Georgian დიღვამი (diɣvami, fertile soil), from Proto-Kartvelian *diɣwam- (fertile soil). Compare Svan დიღჳამ (diɣwam).

This root clearly resembles Proto-Indo-European *dʰéǵʰōm (earth).
