[edit]According to Ačaṙyan, from Old Armenian բեւր (bewr). But according to Abaev, a borrowing from Alanic should not be excluded (note Digor Ossetian беурӕ (bewræ)). In any case, ultimately from Iranian; see Proto-Iranian *baywā́.
