Inherited from Old Burmese ဟုတ်တာ (amen, truth, indeed), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *srit, *srut (to be, exist); cognate with ရှိ (hri., to be, to exist), Old Chinese (OC *r̥ʰiːʔ, “body”) (STEDT).
