Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (lip "roll up, curl, be turned, as an edge"). Luce gives Old Chinese 衽 (OC *njɯms, “overlapping part of Chinese gown; skirts, flaps”) as a potential cognate.[1] Alternatively, perhaps derived from Etymology 2, as rolled-up scrolls were common mediums of writing (MED separates these two senses, though). However, Indic loans in Burmese appear to be mostly nouns and not verbs.”
