Particularly: “Doesn't seem to be mentioned by STEDT, while Luce gives Old Chinese 容 (OC *loŋ, “appearance; to contain”) as a cognate.[1]

It is unclear if the "false" sense is etymologically connected to the "semblance" sense, though MED groups them together, and "superficial appearance" and "deception" are linked together in many languages; for a semantic parallel, compare English facade.”
