Particularly: “Treated as an atomic unit by STEDT, which appears to be correct. Not given etymology by STEDT (bhɔŋ³ bhi² "pants / trousers"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. Doesn't seem to resemble the word for "pants" in any neighboring national language, and as an atomic unit, lacks a clear interpretation as the sum of its syllables. There's a very vague resemblance to Hindi पाजामा (pājāmā, pajamas), though it is unclear whether the Hindi could transform so drastically into the Burmese form.”
