Etymology

Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (phi¹nɑp "shoe"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. MED treats the word as atomic; the constituent syllables are ဖိ (hpi., to press, flatten) + နပ် (nap, to be sharp, fully cooked) (second syllable doesn't seem to be semantically contributing). The Burmese looks a lot like Ancient Greek πῐ́νᾰξ (pĭ́năx, board, tablet, pinax), and the meanings seem to match. The Greek word is known to have entered many other languages; it seems plausible that it entered Burmese via trade (what would be the most likely route, if true?).”
