[edit]From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *nwe (“warm, hot”), an allofam of *C-n(w)an ~ *C-n(w)at (“to burn, light (a fire); hot”). Cognates include Lashi ngé (“hot”), Old Chinese 熱 (OC *ŋjed, “id”) (STEDT).
