Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (thɔ³ pɑt⁴ "butter") or mentioned by Luce 1981. Doesn't seem like the constituent syllables contribute to the meaning (ထော (htau:, to come into money, roll in wealth) +‎ ပတ် (pat, to wind around, wrap around; drum)), and MED accordingly treats this as an atomic unit. Doesn't really resemble any word for "butter" among the national languages of its neighbors. Did the ancient Burmish tribes traditionally eat butter? This is relevant to figuring out whether this is a native Burmish word or a borrowing - is the second syllable from English butter?”
