Etymology 1

[edit]
This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (se¹ sɑp⁴ "careful / attentive"). MED groups the "put closely" sense with the "seed" sense, which appears to be incorrect. Luce gives Old Chinese (OC *zliːl, *zliːls, “to order, arrange”) as a cognate.[1]
