[edit]From Middle Mon gamləṅ, from Old Mon [script needed] (guṁluṅ), an infixed form of [script needed] (gluṅ, “to be numerous”), from which is derived Modern Mon ဂၠိုၚ် (gləṅ)).[1] Compare also ဂလိုၚ် (galəṅ, “quantity; to increase”).
