[edit]Cognate with Thai กีบ (gìip), Northern Thai ᨠᩦ᩠ᨷ, Lü ᦂᦲᧇ (k̇iib), Shan ၵိပ်ႇ (kìp), Tai Nüa ᥐᥤᥙᥴ (kíp), Phake ကိပ် (kip), Ahom *𑜀𑜢𑜆𑜫 (*kip).
The sense of currency is from that of a hoof, because ingots of sycee cast in the shapes of hooves were used as currency.[1]
