[edit]From Old Khmer traipīṭaka, traiyapīttaka (literally “Three Baskets”), from trai, traiya (“three”) + pīṭaka, pīttaka (“basket”); equivalent to Thai ไตร (dtrai) + ปิฎก. Cognate with Modern Khmer ត្រៃបិដក (traybedɑɑk). Compare Sanskrit त्रिपिटक (tripiṭaka), from which Thai ตรีปิฎก is derived.
