Etymology

From ไก่ (gài, “fowl”) +‎ กา (gaa, “crow”); literally "fowl [and] crow".

The first sense originated from a 1998 quiz show, Lun Laeo Ruai (ลุ้นแล้วรวย), in which the phrase จริงใจ (jing-jai, “sincere; truthful”) was used for "yes" and the present phrase was for "no".
