[edit]From Sanskrit सोम (soma, “soma plant; a kind of boiled vine from Vedic India, made from the plant soma, drunk as medicine and offered to gods; also associated with the moon after the Vedic period”). Cognate with Old Khmer soma°; Modern Khmer សោម (saom).
