[edit]From Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer or Angkorian Old Khmer ស្នោ (sno, “the plant Sesbania javanica of the family Leguminosae”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ស្នោ (snao), Lao ສະໂນ (sa nō).
