[edit]From Old Khmer ខ្មោច (khmoca), ក្មោច្ច៑ (kmocc), ខ្មោច៑ (khmoc, “corpse; ghost, spirit; ancestral spirit; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ខ្មោច (khmaoc).
