[edit]From Proto-Tai *ʔiːmᴮ (“satiated”). Cognate with Lao ອິ່ມ (ʼim) or ອີ່ມ (ʼīm), Northern Thai ᩋᩥ᩠᩵ᨾ, Khün ᩋᩥ᩠᩵ᨾ, Lü ᦀᦲᧄᧈ (˙ʼiim¹), Shan ဢိမ် (ʼǐm), Ahom 𑜒𑜢𑜉𑜫 (ʼim), Zhuang imq. Compare Middle Chinese 厭 (MC 'jiemH, “to be sated”).
