Etymology

[edit]

From Pali ārādhanā (invitation; gratification; propitiation); ultimately from Sanskrit आराधन (ārādhana, idem); perhaps via Old Khmer ʼārādhnā, ʼārādanā, ʼārāddanā, ʼārādaṇā (to invite; to summon; to solicit; to ask a favour or boon; etc) or Angkorian Old Khmer ʼārādhanā (idem). Cognate with Modern Khmer អារាធនា (ʼaariətniə).
