Etymology

From Pali āmisa (flesh, meat; food; prey; gift, boon; object of enjoyment, pleasing or beautiful object; lust, desire; etc); ultimately from Sanskrit आमिष (āmiṣa, idem). Cognate with Old Khmer ʼāmiṣa (flesh, meat), Modern Khmer អាមិស (ʼaamɨh).
