[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Sanskrit अभिषेक (abhiṣeka, “abhisheka”); perhaps via Old Khmer ʼabhiṣeka, ʼabbhiseka (“consecration by sprinkling water; bathing (of a divinity) during worship; to consecrate, to inaugurate; etc”); equivalent to Thai อภิ (à-pí) + เษก (sèek). Cognate with Modern Khmer អភិសេក (ʼaʼphisaek); Lao ອະພິເສກ (ʼa phi sēk).
