[edit]Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *ʰmokᴰˢ¹ (“to cover; to bury; to hide”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩉ᩠ᨾᩫᨠ, Lao ໝົກ (mok), Lü ᦷᦖᧅ (ṁok), Shan မူၵ်း (múuk), Tai Nüa ᥛᥨᥐᥱ (mǒk), Phake မုက် (muk), Ahom *𑜉𑜤𑜀𑜫 (*muk), Zhuang moek, Nong Zhuang moak.
