Etymology
[edit]From Pali sankha (“shell; conch; chank; mother-of-pearl; etc”). Cognate with Old Khmer saṅkha; Modern Khmer ស័ង្ខ (sangkhɑɑ). Compare Sanskrit शङ्ख (śaṅkha); Old Khmer śaṅkha, śaṃṅkha.
