Etymology 1

From Proto-Tai *rwɯəŋᴬ (gutter; trough).[1]

In Southwestern Tai, cognate with Lao ຮາງ (hāng), Shan ႁၢင်း (háang), Ahom 𑜍𑜂𑜫 (raṅ).

In Northern Tai, possibly cognate with Zhuang luengq (gap) or Zhuang luengx (ditch between ridges).
