Etymology

From Pali ratana (“gem; jewel”), from Sanskrit रत्न (ratna, “gem; jewel”); possibly via Old Khmer ratna, ratana°, rata, ratta, ratra (“jewel, gem, precious stone; anything precious”). Cognate with Modern Khmer រត្ន (rŭətnɔɔ).
