[edit]From Proto-Tai *ɟm̩.rukᴰ (“tomorrow”)[1] which /-k/ becomes /-ŋ/ due to assimilation with นี้ ("this").[2]
Cognate with Northern Thai ᨻᩕᩪᨠ or ᨽᩪᨠ, Lao ພຸກ (phuk) (in ພຸກນີ້ (phuk nī)), Lü ᦘᦳᧅ (phuk), Shan ၽုၵ်ႈ (phūk), Zhuang byug in ngoenzbyug (dialectal).
