[edit]From พระ (prá, “honorific”, literally “divine, holy, etc”) + ตะบอง (dtà-bɔɔng, “club (staff)”). Compare Khmer បាត់ដំបង (batdɑmbɑɑng, literally “lost club”), from បាត់ (bat, “lost; missing”) + ដំបង (dɑmbɑɑng, “club (staff)”).
