Etymology 1
[edit]Possibly borrowed from Old Khmer ក្ទំ (kdaṃ), កទំ (kadaṃ, “to settle; to take up residence”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɡdɔɔm (“hut; room”). Cognate with Khmer ខ្ទម (khtɔɔm).
Possibly doublet of ขนำ (via Southern Thai ขนำ and Western Cham kadauṃ).

[edit]Borrowed from Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer កទម្វ (kadamva), កទំ (kadaṃ), from Sanskrit कदम्ब (kadamba), कदम्बक (kadambaka). Cognate with Khmer ក្ទម្ព (ktɔɔm), Lao ກະທ່ອມ (ka thǭm), Pali kadamba.
Doublet of กระทุ่ม. Compare Malay ketum.
