[edit]Borrowed from Prakrit [Term?], ultimately from Sanskrit वृत्त (vṛtta, “round”). Doublet of വട്ടം (vaṭṭaṁ) and വൃത്തം (vr̥ttaṁ). Cognate Hindi वड़ा (vaṛā), Kannada ವಡೆ (vaḍe), Sinhalese වට (waṭa), Tamil வடை (vaṭai), Telugu వడ (vaḍa).
