[edit]From Proto-Dravidian *kaẓutay. Cognate with Kannada ಕತ್ತೆ (katte), Kodava ಕತ್ತೆ (katte), Gondi గాది (gādi), Tamil கழுதை (kaḻutai), Telugu గాడిద (gāḍida) and Tulu ಕತ್ತೆ್ (kattæ).
