Etymology
[edit]From Classical Persian فرنگی (farangī, firingī), probably through Hindi फ़िरंगी (firaṅgī)/Urdu فرنگی (firangī); ultimately from Old French franc. Compare English firangi. The sense 'cannon' arises from it being a European import.
