[edit]Brown derives the term from పడు (paḍu, “to fall”); on the other hand, it is possibly borrowed from Pali pakkha, from Sanskrit पक्ष (pakṣa, “side, flank”). Cognate with Kannada ಪಕ್ಕ (pakka), Tamil பக்கம் (pakkam).
