[edit]Borrowed from Prakrit 𑀉𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀺𑀬 (uṭṭiya), from Sanskrit औष्ट्रक (auṣṭraka); ultimately from Sanskrit उष्ट्र (uṣṭra). Cognates include Kannada ಒಂಟೆ (oṇṭe), Tamil ஒட்டகம் (oṭṭakam) and Malayalam ഒട്ടകം (oṭṭakaṁ).
